National Talent Search examination and scholarships for school students in India

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) conducts the National Talent Search examination (NTSE) to identify talented students for scholarships. Only students who are Indian nationals can apply for NTSE.

As of 2012-2013, the scholarships are available to those who wish to pursue courses in:
  • Sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level 
  • Professional courses like medicine and engineering up to second-degree level
NTSE Features as of 2012-2013
  1. NTSE is for Class X students 
  2. Exam consists of: (i) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (ii)Scholastic Ability Test(SAT)
  3. The amount of scholarship will be Rs. 500/- per month for all the students studying in Class XI onwards (irrespective of class/course) except for Ph.D., wherein it is paid as per UGC norms
  4. Quota for State/UT will be computed proportionally on the basis of students enrolment in Class IX and X.
