XRCVC Associate Programs (XAP) for visually impaired social work

Looking to use your professional skills for social work? The Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) is offering a unique training program in the field of social work for the visually impaired. The program is known as XAP, short for XRCVC Associate Program. It will begin in August this year and requires a commitment of one year.  There are different projects under the program, for which thorough training will be provided to the Associates. 
 XRCVC XAP Programs
1. DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) Content Creation
Brief work profile: You will be creating DAISY books, which are soft copies of a book which enable a visually impaired person to navigate it easily. Work will also involve scanning & editing of hard copy books.
Eligibility requirements: 
  • You must be fluent in MS-Office
  • You should be comfortable with working on new software
  • You must be fluent in English
Note: There may be a possibility of working from home, provided you have access to a computer at home on which you can work.

2. Mathematics and Science Access
Brief work profile: You will be creating accessible mathematics and science content involving typing of content using MathType & its conversion to MathML, which makes the math content accessible to readers. You will also be involved in research work & helping to develop Teaching Learning Aids for making the subjects of science & math more fun. 
Eligibility requirements:
  • You must be fluent in computers
  • You should be comfortable with working on new software
  • You must be fluent in English
  • You should have an interest in & an aptitude for Mathematics and Science
  • You should have an interest in research work
  • You should have the ability to compile ideas
  • Analytical skills, Creativity and Artistic skills and 3D modelling skills are an additional plus
3. Office Research and Support
Brief work profile: You will provide back end support for the XRCVC’s initiatives & contribute to advocacy. Responsibilities may include organizing the library system, direct support service for projects, providing data for policy recommendations, etc.
Eligibility requirements:
  • You must be fluent in computers
  • You must be fluent in English
  • You should have an interest in research work
  • You should have the ability to compile ideas
  • Creative & Analytical skills
  • Willing to work in a team & perform multiple tasks
4. Computer Training
Brief work profile: You will be involved in the extension training program which provides training services to blind and low vision students across Mumbai colleges. Before you start direct training, you will be provided a Training for Trainers Program.
Eligibility requirements:
  • You must have complete knowledge of computers
  • You should have a basic knowledge of computer hardware
  • You must have to ability to teach and communicate ideas
  • You should be fluent in multiple languages (English, Hindi, Marathi)
  • You should have a genuine interest in working with young adults
  • You should be willing to travel across Mumbai 
  • You should be willing to work in a team & have trouble-shooting skills
  • Previous teaching experience of any kind is an additional plus
5. English Training
Brief work profile:  You will be involved in the extension training program which provides training in English to blind and low vision students across Mumbai colleges. Before you start direct training, you will be provided a Training for Trainers Program.

  • You must have computer fluency
  • You must be fluent in an additional language (Hindi, Marathi)
  • You should have a genuine interest in working with young adults
  • You should be willing to travel across Mumbai 
  • You should be willing to work in a team & have trouble-shooting skills
  • Previous teaching experience of any kind is an additional plus
