Tagore National Fellowship for cultural research 2015

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India invites applications/nominations for the award of fellowships and scholarships under the Scheme of Tagore National Fellowship of Cultural Research. Applications should be submitted by 30th March, 2015.

About the fellowship
The primary goal of the fellowship is to encourage scholars and academicians to be affiliated with various cultural institutions in India to work on projects of mutual interest.

The duration of the Fellowship will be for a maximum period of 2 years. However, the nodal institutions can recommend to the NSC an extension for up to 1 year or even reduction to somewhat less than 2 years on the basis of assessment of the quality of the work undertaken. 

A Fellow will be entitled to an accommodation allowance up to 30% of his/her usual pay, including Grade Pay or the honorarium paid, subject to presentation of rent receipts.


There are 2 categories of awards:
1. Tagore National Fellows: They will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 80,000/- per month. Up to 15 awards will be given in a year.

2. Tagore Research Scholars: They will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 50,000/-. Up to 25 awards will be given in a year.

Note: In both the above categories, unfilled vacancies during the previous year will be carried forward to the next year & thereby added to the maximum strength.

Eligibility criteria


  • Both Indian nationals and foreign citizens can apply for the scheme.
  • You should be a scholar with sound academic or professional credentials.
  • You should have made a significant contribution to knowledge in your field, as reflected in publications in reputed and refereed journals & books authored by you.
  • Persons with significant creative work in any field of art and culture can  also apply for the scheme.
How to apply
Submit your application to any of the Nodal institution of your choice, depending on the area of research proposed to be undertaken. 

The application should be submitted on plain paper along with a passport size phot, bio-data, list of publications, a one-page synopsis of the work you wish to do, other relevant documents and names of 2 referees along with your contact details. 


You must also enclose a declaration stating that if you are selected for the award, you will complete the tenure of the fellowship/scholarship.

Your application must reach the Nodal institution on or before 30th March, 2015.
