How to join the Indian Army through JCO or direct recruitment

As informed in this article, you can join the Indian army through course entry for Officers. Another way to join after 10th or 12th or graduation is to join as a JCO/direct recruitment through rallies.

Categories

1. Soldier (General Duty) (All Arms) 

• Age: 17 to 23 years
• Educational qualification: SSLC/Matric with 45% marks in aggregate and 32% in each subject. There is no percentage requirement for 10+2 and higher qualification.

2. Soldier (Technical) (Technical Arms, Arty, Army Air Defense)

• Age: 17 ½ to 23 years
• Educational qualification: 10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 50% marks in aggregate and 40% in each subject (passing in 10+2 is currently acceptable).

3. Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical (All Arms) 

• Age: 17 to 23 years
• Educational qualification: 10+2 /Intermediate exam pass in any stream (Arts, Science, Commerce) with 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject. You should have studied and passed English and Maths/Accounts/Book Keeping in Std.X or Std.XII with 40% marks in each subject. In case of graduate with Maths and English as subject in B.Sc., the stipulation of 40% in Std.X or Std.XII  is waived off. In case of graduate without English and Maths/Accounts/Book keeping, you should have scored more than 40% in English and Maths/Accounts/Book keeping at least once in Std.X or Std.XII.

4. Soldier Nursing Assistant (Army Medical Corps)

• Age: 17 to 23 years
• Educational qualification: 10+2/Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with minimum 50% aggregate marks and minimum 40% in each subject OR In case you have a B.Sc. degree with Botany/Zoology/Bio-Science and English, the stipulation of percentage in Std.XII is waived off. However, you should have studied all the 4 specified subjects in Std.XII also.

5. Soldier Tradesmen (All Arms) 

• Age: 17 to 23 years
• Educational qualification: 10^th pass / ITI (except for Syce, House keeper, Mess keeper who may be 8^th pass).

6. Soldier (General duty)

• Age: 17 to 21 years
• Educational qualification: 10^th simple pass

7. Hav Surveyor Auto Catro (Engineers)

• Age: 20 to 25 years
• Educational qualification: BA/BSc. With Maths. You should also have passed Class 10+2 level or equivalent with Maths and Science as the main subjects.

8. JCO (Religious Teacher) (All Arms)

• Age: 27 to 34 years
• Educational qualification: Graduate in any discipline. In addition, you should have the requisite qualification in your own religious denomination.

9. JCO (Catering) (Army Services Corps)

• Age: 21 to 27 years
• Educational qualification: 10+2 or equivalent exam and Diploma / Certificate course of 1 year duration or more in Cookery / Hotel Management and Catering Technology from a recognized university or food craft institute (AICTE recognition is not mandatory).

10. Havildar (Education) (Army Education Corps)

• Age: 20 to 25 years
• Educational qualification: (i) Gp X – MA/M.Sc./MCA or B.A./B.Sc./BCA with B.Ed.; (ii) Gp Y – B.Sc./B.A./BCA (without B.Ed.).

Promotion prospects

An Army Jawan may be selected to be a Commissioned Officer subject to fulfilling requisite conditions of service.

How to apply

Recruitment is done through open rallies only. You can contact your nearest Army Recruiting Office / HQ Recruiting Zone to know schedule of these rallies. The schedule of these rallies is also published in leading vernacular newspapers and Employment News. You need to report to the venue of the rally on the dates notified along with: educational certificates, matriculation certificate, character certificate, caste certificate, domicile certificate and 6 passport sized colour photographs.
