University of Sheffield free song writing online course June 2015
Got melodies in your head but can't write the song for it? Register for a free online song writing course! The University
of Sheffield, UK has started a free online program in song writing. The Massive
Open Online Course (MOOC) has been set up in collaboration with the online
courses portal Future Learn. The portal will provide the e-tutoring based on
the online teaching material provided by the university. On successful completion
of the course, you will receive a certificate of participation from the university.
Although the course has already begun, you can still join up (until the end of the sixth week) as the sessions which were taught earlier are available in video format.

Experts in
music and psychology at the University of Sheffield will be involved with the
course, as also special guests who are professionals in the industry. These
include singer-songwriters Neil McSweeney and Nat Johnson, BBC Radio 6
Music presenter Tom Ravenscroft, tabla player Shahbaz Hussein, former lead
singer of The Long Blondes Kate Jackson, etc.
What you will do
Poet Matt Black
has provided some song lyrics and you will build up a song with these lyrics,
putting rhythm to the words, writing a melody, putting chords compatible with
the melody, and so on.
