The Written Ability Test (WAT) and the Group Discussion (GD) are both very essential aspects of the selection process to gain admission to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Here are some brief tips on how to crack the WAT and GD.

Tips for IIM WAT
  • You need to stick to the word limit and the time limit
  • Be legible, don’t scribble
  • Your writing should be grammatically correct with correct use of capital letters
  • Do not make spelling mistakes
  • Avoid cancelling and striking out words
  • Organize your content into proper paragraphs, with a short introductory paragraph and a brief concluding paragraph, with the main body in-between.
  • Be simple and crisp
  • Do not use short forms of words or slang
Tips for IIM Group Discussion
The Group Discussion (GD) is what comes up after the written test and before a personal interview.
  • Be to the point and avoid rambling.
  • Communicate your views well with proper diction
  • It is a group discussion so how you behave in the group is also gauged by the moderator
  • Display leadership skills
  • Do not be offensive, be pleasant
  • Maintain good eye contact with all participants
  • Be open to listening to another’s point of view
  • Avoid a biased view
  • Do not use slang
