ICMR-DHR International Short-term, Long-term Fellowship programs for Indian biomedical scientists

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Department of Health Research (DHR) are offering international fellowships for Indian biomedical scientists. The goal is to provide in-depth training and provided an opportunity to know about advancements in the field through interactions with international scientists. It is advisable to read all the terms and conditions, including the service bond requirement, before applying. 

Short-term Fellowships

There are 25 Fellowships available every year in the emerging areas related to clinical, medicine, and health sciences. The duration of the short-term Fellowship is two weeks up to three months.

Stipend

You will receive a monthly stipend of US$ 3000. This will include accommodation and other expenses. From a period of 15 days - for a stay of 30 days, a maximum of USD 3000 will be paid. The stipend will be paid in advance in the form of an equivalent amount in Indian currency (INR), and the balance amount of approximately 10% of the stipend will be refunded once you complete the fellowship and adjustment due on submission of utilization certificate/original receipt.

You will also get reimbursed for a return economy class excursion airfare (by Air India ) through the shortest possible route.

You will also receive a contingency grant of up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000/- to cover only the following- the cost of the Visa, taxi charges from your place of duty to the airport and back, overseas mediclaim insurance expenses reimbursable on submission of original receipts/bills on return. Other charges and expenses will not be covered.

Eligibility requirements

Nationality: You must be a citizen of India, and must be working in India.

Age criteria: You should be below 57 years as of the last date of receipt of applications.

Academic Qualifications: You should have an M.D/M.S/Ph.D Degree. This can be M.D. or M.S. orM.D.S. or MBBS/BDS/MVSc./M.Sc./M.Pharma/M.Tech or an equivalent with a Ph.D. in health/biomedical research.

Experience: You should have at least 15 years of experience if you are availing of the fellowship for 15 days, and at least three years of experience if you are availing the fellowship for one to three months, in the field of teaching/research in a recognized Institute after having obtained the requisite qualification.

Other Fellowships: You should not have availed any similar fellowship of the duration of one month or above from any of the agencies of the Government of India or any State Government in the last three years.

Other essential requirements

You are required to submit a letter of acceptance from the host Institute where you propose to work during the fellowship program and must submit a plan of proposed training for availing of the fellowship. If you belong to a private college or university, then you need to submit a recognition letter from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The application for the Fellowship Program must be forwarded by the Employer/Head of the Institution with a statement that you will be considered as a full-time employee of the Institution during the period of the fellowship.

Long-term Fellowships

There are 40 Fellowships available every year in the emerging areas related to clinical, medicine, and health sciences. The duration of the short-term Fellowship is six months up to 12 months.

Stipend 

You will receive a monthly stipend of US$ 3000. This will include accommodation and other expenses. The stipend will be paid in advance in the form of an equivalent amount in Indian currency (INR), and the balance amount of approximately 10% of the stipend will be refunded once you complete the fellowship and adjustment due on submission of utilization certificate/original receipt.

    Other essential requirements: Same as for the short-term Fellowships mentioned above.
