ICMR-DHR International Fellowship Programs with Stipend 2023-24 for Indian Biomedical Scientists

The Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India invites applications for the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-Department of Health Research (DHR) International Fellowship Programs. The Fellowships are for emerging areas in the field of clinical/medicine/health science. There are two Fellowship programs, one is of short-term duration for senior biomedical scientists, and the other is long-term for young biomedical scientists. For both, only Indian citizens who are working in India can apply.


Note that for both the Fellowship programs, you should not have received any similar Fellowship of a duration of one month or more from any Central Govt. agency or State Govt. agency in the last three years. Other criteria are mentioned below.

Short-Term Fellowships for Senior Scientists

There are 25 Fellowships offered each year, and it is for a duration of 15 days up to three months. The stipend is US$ 3000 per month. Refer to the official notification for details of the contingency grant. 

Eligibility requirements

1. Age criterion: You should be below 57 years old as of the last date of receipt of applications.

2. Academic Qualifications:

(i) M.D./M.S./M.D.S.

(ii) M.B.B.S./BDS/M.VSc./M.Sc./M.Pharma/M.Tech. or equivalent with a Ph.D. in health/biomedical research

3. Experience: If you are applying for the 15-day Fellowship, you should have a minimum of 15 years of experience. If you are applying for a longer duration Fellowship of one to three months, then you should have a minimum experience of 10 years.

Long-Term Fellowships for Young Scientists

40 Fellowships are offered each year, for the duration of six to 12 months. A stipend of US$ 3000 per month is offered. Refer to the official notification for details of the contingency grant. 

1. Age criterion: You should be below 45 years as of the last date of receipt of applications.

2. Academic Qualifications:

(i) M.D./M.S./M.D.S.

(ii) M.B.B.S./BDS/M.VSc./M.Sc./M.Pharma/M.Tech. or equivalent with a Ph.D. in health/biomedical research

3. Experience: Post-qualification, you should have a minimum of 3 years of teaching or research experience in a recognized institute.
