Banaras Hindu University Libraries Dr. S. R. Ranganathan Internship program with Stipend - Eligibility, Application Procedure
The Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy Cell (SRICC) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh invites applications from highly motivated and committed postgraduates in Library and Information Science for the Dr. S. R. Ranganathan Internship programme in BHU Libraries.
This program is in memory of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, a globally renowned Indian librarian and mathematician regarded as the father of library science, documentation, and information science in India. He worked as a Librarian at the Central Library of BHU, namely the reputed Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library, during its initial years of development. The closing date for receipt of applications for this prestigious internship program is 17th February 2025.
Features of the Internship Program
- Number of Interns: 20, with the posting determined by the Librarian.
- Duration: One year, which will be on a temporary basis until the end of the tenure. However, it may be extended based on the intern's performance
- Shifts: You will be required to work different shifts on a rotational basis for six days a week. The shift will include morning, evening, late-night, and overnight shifts and may include working on Sundays/holidays. You can take 2.5 days leave each month, which will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.
- Stipend: Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.20,000/-.
- Benefits: You will get hands-on training in various fields of Library management in the various Libraries of Banaras Hindu University. During this training, you will learn about emerging tools and technologies used in libraries.
- Accommodation: Interns will not be provided with any type of accommodation. You need to make your own arrangements.
- Appraisal: The librarian will evaluate your performance every quarter.
- Certificate: Those who completed at least six months of the internship program will receive a Certificate of Internship, signed by the Librarian.
Eligibility Requirements
1. Age Criterion: Your age should be a maximum of 26 years as of the last date of application. The maximum age for OBC, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates will be relaxed based on university norms.
2. Academic Qualification: You must have a Postgraduate Degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized top 100 NIRF-ranked Institution or an Institution of National Importance within two years before the last date of application.
3. Academic Scores: You should have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in high school, in Class 12, and in the undergraduate degree exam and a minimum of 55% in the postgraduate degree exam.
4. General Skills: You should be tech-savvy with computer knowledge.
Selection Process
If you are shortlisted from the applications received, you may be required to appear for a written test and/or an interview. You will not receive any TA/DA for appearing in the written test or interview. The date of the written test and interview will displayed on the BHU website and shortlisted candidates will be intimated by email.
