University of Mumbai Centre for Extramural Studies Certificate Courses Admissions 2025

The Centre for Extramural Studies, University of Mumbai, has released the admission notification for certificate courses for the upcoming 2025 batches. You can pursue short-term courses in gardening, archaeology, theatre, astronomy, and more! Some courses are delivered in English, and others in Marathi and/or Hindi. 

Applications to the courses should be submitted by July 25, 2025. The course duration, fees and other details are provided below.

Eligibility requirements

For all the certificate courses, you should have cleared at least the Class 12 exam. The certificate course in landscape designing and maintenance requires a B.Sc. in Horticulture or completion of a nursery and gardening course.

Astronomy and Astrophysics Course

  • Duration and time: 10 months, on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 7,500/- (visit fee extra)
  • Venue: Nehru Planetarium, Worli, Mumbai

Gardening and Nursery Maintenance

  • Duration and time: 6 months on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 12,000/-

Landscape Designing and Maintenance

  • Duration and Time: 4 months on Saturdays, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 12,000/-
  • Eligibility: B.Sc. Horticulture or Nursery and Gardening Course

Dramatics (Theatre Nexus)

  • Duration and Time: Starting in August 225, on Saturdays and Sundays, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 10,000/- + production cost is extra
  • Venue: University of Mumbai, Health Centre Bldg., 2nd Floor, Vidyanagari, Mumbai – 400 098.

Geology

  • Duration and Time: Starting in August 2025, on Sundays, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 6,000/-

Archaeology

  • Duration and Time: 1 year, starting in August 2025 on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 10,000/-

Ancient Indian Arts and Science

  • Duration and Time: 1 year, starting in August 2025 on Sundays, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fee: INR 10,000/-

Epigraphy

  • Duration and Time: Starting in August 2025 (16 lectures, 32 teaching-learning hours) on Sundays, 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (confirm timings, as the registration form indicates a different time)
  • Fee: INR 6,000/-

Numismatics

  • Duration and Time: Starting in August 2025 on Sundays, 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. (confirm timings, as the registration form indicates a different time)
  • Fee: INR 6,000/-
  • Venue: Health Centre Bldg., 2nd Floor, Vidyanagari, Mumbai – 400 098.

Forts and Fortification

  • Duration and Time: Starting in August 2025 on Saturdays, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (confirm timings, as the registration form indicates a different time)
  • Fee: INR 6,000/-
  • Venue: Health Centre Bldg., 2nd Floor, Vidyanagari, Mumbai – 400 098.

Outhouse Hindi Film Review

Outhouse directed by Sunil Sukthankar and produced by Mohan Agashe, also playing one of the characters, is a charming film on the generational divide. The film was screened last month at the Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai and Thane, Maharashtra. On the face of it, Outhouse is about two elders, namely Nana, played by Agashe, and Aadima played by Sharmila Tagore who find themselves in conflict over the rightful owner of her grandson Neel’s pet poodle after it goes missing. But within that story arc, the writer, the late Sumitra Bhave, makes the film a gentle paean on urban loneliness, working women’s struggles, the precocity of children, and the fraught terrain of marriages and peripatetic lives.
